Dependent Coverage: Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), most health plans that cover dependents must let your kids stay on your policy until they turn 26.
That means they can stay covered even if they’re:
- Married
- Living on their own
- Not financially dependent on you
- In school or Out of school
- Offered insurance through their own job
If you have a disabled child who’s financially dependent on you, some plans may even let them stay on your policy past age 26.
