Nevada is a State Based Exchange, which means we run our own “Marketplace”. A Marketplace is a website that has insurance plans that can be purchased and the Government helps pay your premiums based on your income and family size. Nevada Health Link was originally designed by our State Government exclusively for Nevada state residents, but in its first year of operation, the website had serious technical problems causing major enrollment issues. Nevada tried fixing the problems plaguing the site, but finally moved to the Federal website technology for the 2015 enrollment season. Nevada did not move in a direction to replace the company that built Nevada Health Link (Xerox) with another new contractor, but decided to utilize the federal website’s enrollment system (Healthcare.gov) for future “Open Enrollments”.
Nevada Health Link has been a supported state-based exchange from 2015 through 2019. However, for plan year 2020, we are moving back to our own State Based Exchange and will utilize “Get Insured” which has had successful enrollments in other states.
Nevada Health Link still serves as an online marketplace where individuals and families can research insurance plans side-by-side and then purchase health insurance with government subsidies.

Nevada Health Link is an organization created by the State of Nevada to help you find a health insurance plan that fits your needs and your budget. Through Nevada Health Link, individuals can shop for, compare and purchase health insurance plans that are income based.
Nevada Health Link connects individuals to a variety of insurance plans from different health insurance companies, as well as offers tools and resources to help you choose the plan that’s right for you. Nevada Health Link can help you receive federal tax credits and subsidies to help cover the cost of your insurance. They do NOT, however, offer health insurance “Off Exchange” (private health plans that do not offer Government subsidies).
In 2010, the U.S. government passed a law that aimed to cut the cost of health insurance, and increase the number of people with health insurance. This new law, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), requires everyone to have health insurance. If you don’t have insurance or government health coverage, you previously had to pay a fine, but currently the fine is $0 on your federal taxes. Nevada Health Link can offer plans with subsidies and get you covered comprehensively.
Nevada Health Link now utilizes a platform by “Get Insured” instead of Healthcare.gov or Xerox’s platform that we had back in 2013.
Access to health insurance for all Nevadans
To increase the number of insured Nevadans by facilitating the purchase and sale of health insurance that provides quality health care through the creation of a transparent, simplified marketplace of qualified health plans.
You start the process by answering a few short questions about yourself, your family and your income. We will use that information to help you apply for health coverage AND receive your government subsidy.
The online marketplace (our online quoting tool) is like a mall, and all of the insurance companies are like stores in the mall. You can go to the mall for one-stop shopping. You can compare products at different stores and then decide which one is right for you. You can compare and buy your income-based health insurance through our quoting tool, just like you would compare and purchase things at a mall.
Individuals can compare plans by price, coverage or metal level. All of the information about each plan is available in clear, easy-to-understand language, so there’s no guesswork about what’s covered and what it costs.
