What You Need To Know About Obamacare Health Insurance

How Obamacare Helps Those Without Health Insurance

Before Obamacare, many individuals were unable to obtain health insurance either because they either couldn’t afford it or they had a pre-existing health condition. Before the Affordable Care Act there were up to 50 million Americans who didn’t have health insurance. If they had to go to the hospital, they simply wouldn’t pay the bill. That raised the cost of health care for everyone. Obamacare provides an affordable health insurance option for individuals who do not have health insurance through their employer or those who can’t afford health insurance. It is a good idea to talk to an experienced Nevada health insurance agent to explain the many benefits of Obamacare and the options available.

The Open Enrollment period for Obamacare is from November 1 to January 15 of each year. Obamacare prohibits health insurance companies from denying individuals coverage due to pre-existing conditions. Another benefit of the Affordable Care Act is that it allows more people to qualify for Medicaid. Families that make too much money and can’t qualify for Medicaid can still receive monthly subsidies and a reduction in co-payments and deductibles, but there are circumstances that make Nevadan’s ineligible for Government subsidies.  In other words, it’s not a guarantee to get a Government subsidy.

How Obamacare Helps Those With Health Insurance

The Affordable Care Act provided several benefits to those who have health insurance. These benefits include the following:

  • Adult children up to the age of 26 can be added to their parent’s health insurance plan
  • Health insurance companies can’t drop someone from the plan because they become ill and the amount of health insurance used can’t be limited
  • An insurance company can’t deny someone who is chronically ill
  • Wellness and pregnancy exams are free and without a co-payment
  • Health insurance companies can’t raise premium rates without state approval
  • Some families received money back from their health insurance providers because the government ruled that health insurance companies must use 80 to 85 percent of their premiums paid on medical claims.  If members are overcharged, the excess has to be paid back to policy holders.
